H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurates Anti Doping Laboratory Qatar

Doha – December 10, 2012 – Anti Doping Laboratory Qatar (ADLQ), the first specialised laboratory of its kind in the Middle East, was inaugurated in an official ceremony under the auspices of H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, The Heir Apparent to The State Of Qatar, on 10^th December.

ADLQ is a state-of-the-art facility that provides anti-doping testing for athletes across the Gulf region as well as West Asia. Doping control tests will be administered during competition, training and even in the off-season to catch cheats and protect athletes.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology and a specialist team, ADLQ will provide testing for all known forms of doping including testosterone, amphetamines, blood doping (reinfusion), anabolic steroids, EPO, HGH, beta blockers and even the newest form of doping – genetic doping.

This beautiful three stories’ Lab is situated on a 10,000 square meter land, right across from Aspetar within the Aspire Zone.

The Ground Floor of ADLQ hosts all administration staff and the Management team. The 1^st floor is dedicated to Anti-Doping testing only, the core business of ADLQ, while the 2^nd floor is available for Anti-Doping research and open to researchers who are working in similar fields; it will also house the Toxicology lab, and a multi-purpose lab to complement the clinical laboratories in the State of Qatar. The multi-purpose lab also covers the requirements and needs for a highly sophisticated analytical lab in Qatar.

ADLQ will also strive to make drug education part of health education, lay down norms regulating the use of technology in sport and provide accurate and current information to athletes to help them think critically and make the wise choice of avoiding doping in any form.

ADLQ is seeking compliance with ISO/IEC17025 accreditation. The target is to achieve World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) accreditation by the end of 2014, joining an elite group of only 33 labs that have won WADA’s endorsement so far.

Completing the formula to sports in Qatar, as well as contributing towards Qatar’s 2030 vision to be a leader in sports, science, education and research, ADLQ endeavours to eliminate drug use in all sports and uphold the Olympic ideals of fair play and sportsmanship. In the process ADLQ will strive to make sport in all its forms fairer, safer and healthier for all stakeholders, foremost among them, athletes.

12th Arab Games Opening Ceremony Sets the Stage for Sensational Games

Doha, Qatar, December 9, 2011—Tonight, David Atkins Enterprises (DAE) delivered the Opening Ceremony of the 12^th Arab Games, Doha 2011, the first major peacetime event of the region this year. The Opening Ceremony welcomed the 6,000 athletes and officials from 21 participating Arab nations and carried a message of peace and freedom conveyed through the unity of sport and the celebration of Arabic culture.

“In close collaboration with the Arab Games Organising Committee, DAE created a story inspired and informed by the stories and images of pre-Islamic and Islamic history,” said David Atkins, CEO, David Atkins Enterprises. “The Ceremony was created to acknowledge the importance of these times, a time when the very pages of Arabic history are being re-written.”

Journey to Light is an allegorical tale of the Arab world that represents the coming together of countries from around the region to deliver a message of peace. The story celebrates the desert as a land of prophecy and light, where disparate tribes learnt to live together in peace and harmony through the shining light of knowledge.

“The Ceremony was a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of our Arab lands, and the ties of history, lineage and language that bind us together,” said Abdulla Al Mulla, Director of Ceremonies and Media for the Organising Committee of the 12^th Arab Games, Doha 2011. “It sent a message of peace and unity, and is something we know Arabs will be proud of for years to come.”

The Ceremony featured some of the brightest stars of the Arab World, including Ehab Taufiq, Fahad Al Kubaisi, Asala Nasri, Nadim Sawalha and Abir Issa. Together with a cast of over 3,250 dancers, musicians, athletes, horsemen and falconers, the show was a pageant of performance, costumes, scenic elements and gargantuan props, set against an unprecedented display surface that turned both the stadium floor and entire audience bowl into the world’s largest ‘screen’.

Technical innovation in the Opening Ceremony played a major role and marked two ‘world firsts.’ With 86 projectors video mapping 126,000 cubic meters on the field of play, the show set a world record with the largest stadium projection surface attempted in history. Also for the first time in stadium slot machines online entertainment, the 40,000-strong audience was integrated into the display surface to form a giant LED ‘screen’ made up of 85,000 individual pixels. This extended the display surface by 41,500 square meters to encompass the entire stadium bowl, adding the audience to the vast canvas of visual content.

The Opening Ceremony of the 12^th Arab Games, Doha 2011 took place in Khalifa Stadium on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 19:20 AST.

Earlier this year, DAE set a Guinness World Record in Moscow when it delivered the largest 3D video-mapping show ever attempted for the 2011 Moscow City Day Celebrations. DAE has staged some of the largest and most complex live productions on earth, including the Opening Ceremonies of the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and Shanghai 2010 World Expo, the Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Doha 2006 Asian Games and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and the Handover Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
